Mojave (macOS 10.14) and Version 7.7

Problem: I have version 7.7 and recently upgraded my Mac Operating System to Mojave (macOS 10.14). The program is now not behaving properly.

Solution: The Thayer Birding Software version 7.7 (or any other version) is NOT recommended for those running Apple's new Mojave (macOS 10.14) Operating System released September 24, 2018.

Folks have reported problems running our software with Mojave. Apple has stated that macOS High Sierra would be the last version of macOS to run 32-bit apps without compromise. Since the Thayer Birding Software v7.7 is a 32-bit app, it is not surprising that some folks that upgraded to Mojave are running into problems.

While parts of version 7.7 may run on Mojave, we feel that there are bound to be some issues that we cannot help you fix. As a result, we do not recommend Mojave if you want to run our software on a Mac computer.

We also believe that if you are currently using any Thayer Birding Software on a Mac and you upgrade to Mojave, there is a very good chance that you may not be able to get back in to the program. This could be a huge problem for those who keep their life list in Thayer Birding Software and have not make a paper backup. We recommend Bird Brain to keep track of sightings on Mac computers. www.Birdwatching.com/birdbrain/.

Please note: There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Mojave Operating System - the problem is in the older 32-bit code used by Thayer Birding Software. Because of the prohibitive cost, we do not currently have plans to create new 64-bit code for our birding software.

Reports of the Field Guide locking up or becoming unresponsive have been reported by Mojave users. A forced close or a computer restart will sometimes fix this issue. The time machine backup also causes problems when using Mojave.

Having said all this, we did receive this positive comment from one user: "For what it is worth version 7.7 is now running fine on my MacBook Air with Mojave. We are using it to prepare for a trial event at a science Olympiad tournament this weekend in Sacramento. We love your software!"

Here is a list of recent Mac Operating Systems showing the five different Operating Systems that work well with our software:
